ICON
I remember my first visit to the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City, standing in large rooms filled with fragmented carvings of the Aztec and Mayan past. The mysterious imagery carved out of stone left me feeling overwhelmed, as if I were peering into the depths of a lost civilization's soul. What treasures of wisdom and emotion were they trying to communicate? To whom were they speaking to across the vast expanses of time? Were these images mere reflections of daily life, sacred ceremonies, and spiritual beliefs? Or could they be whispers of an unspoken language—etched forever in stone with a purpose far greater than their creators could fathom? Even now, these ancient symbols resonate within me in ways I struggle to articulate. Imagine the first explorers who laid eyes upon these ancient carvings—their minds racing with questions as they faced a forgotten language that spoke without words. Did those ancient forms awaken echoes in their own souls? Did they, like me, perceive a shared humanity that transcends language and time?
This series isn’t merely about a literal interpretation; it’s an invitation to embark on a journey within yourself. Allow your subconscious to engage with these ancient shapes and forms and to recognize that across cultures lies a universal desire for expression. Rearranging our perceptions of these icons provides us with new lenses through which we can view our shared stories. In doing so, we foster an inward understanding not just of ourselves but also of how interconnected we are—a realization that creativity knows no bounds and ties us together across generations.
