Cotton and Sky

“Cotton and Sky” is a series of abstract painting inspired by one of my favorite stories from my grandmother. As a young girl growing up on a farm outside Sweetwater Texas, her best friend and she would sneak into her father’s cotton fields to hide and smoke cigarettes. As I create, I imagine these two teenage girls, in the mid 1930’s, lying on top the dry, cracked, West Texas soil and giggling as they watch the smoke rise through the cotton plants and dissipate into the blue sky.
